13/20: A Stroll with William James by Jacques Barzun

A Stroll with William James by Jacques Barzun. This is really a two-fer book: William James, the great American psychologist, philosopher, and author of the great work The Varieties of Religious Experience, engages in virtual conversation with the great French-American historian Jacques Barzun. It’s as if you’re eavesdropping on a conversation between the two of them. Both are humane, learned, and engaging; you couldn’t ask for more of a treat. It’s a good thing that it’s all in a book, because if it was a live conversation, you’d never capture all of the insights, which is why, like me, you’ll likely read the book more than once.
